About Lennox Garden

The Lennox Community Garden stands as a living testament to community leadership, stewardship, and resilience. Located at the corner of Inglewood Avenue and W. 112th Street, beside the 105 Freeway, this space was created in 2012 on state-owned land that had long been overlooked. What began as an unused parcel became far more than a garden. It became a refuge, a gathering place, and proof of what is possible when a community is given room to breathe, grow, and thrive.

Over the years, the garden has nourished the community in every sense of the word. During COVID-19, when food insecurity deepened and families were hit especially hard, the gardeners rose to the moment. They transformed the space into a zero-waste community resource, where food distribution, composting, and mutual support helped carry neighbors through one of the most difficult periods in recent memory. Even with limited resources, the community never gave up. Gardeners hauled water, maintained the land, tested the soil themselves to prove it was safe, and stood strong against repeated threats of closure.

When the future of the garden was challenged, the people of Lennox did not walk away. They organized, advocated, and stood their ground to protect what they had built with their own hands. That same spirit of love, resistance, and faith continues today. The Lennox Community Garden is not only a symbol of what belongs to the people, but also a promise of a greener future for Lennox. With a Greenway trail planned adjacent to the garden, even more green space is on the way for the community to enjoy.

At its heart, the story of the Lennox Community Garden is the story of ordinary people doing extraordinary things to protect a place of healing, food access, dignity, and belonging. It reminds us that when community comes together with courage and care, even a small patch of land can become a lasting force for justice, health, and hope for generations to come.
